The Emergency Plumbing, Heating & Air Story

service story
service story

Emergency Plumbing, Heating & Air has been family-owned and operated since 1977. We wanted to share our story about how our plumbing business came to be what it is today. It started with Keith Rose (Dad). Back in the day, he had worked on jet engines in the military until he found out he was colorblind. The military reassigned him to plumbing. After leaving the military he became a police officer for Genoa Township. During that time, on the side, he had started his own plumbing business, Emergency Drain and Plumbing. Fast forward to September 3, 1980, the day his daughter, Jennifer, was born he told Diane (his wife at the time) that he was quitting his full-time police job and making his plumbing business his full-time career. Even though Diane (Mom) was a bit shocked, she stood behind Keith’s decision because she knew he would make it work.

He would continue to build his plumbing business over the years with the help of Diane. She would take calls and handle the paperwork, while Keith would tend to the plumbing jobs. Keith was a lone wolf in his business for a long time. He would have a couple of occasional plumbers assist him with certain jobs until his sons Nick and Doug became his plumbing apprentices in their teenage years.

In 2008 Keith decided it was time to retire. His kids, Nick, Jennifer, and Doug took over the family business. Once the siblings had a clear vision of how they wanted the company to grow, they re-branded Emergency Drain and Plumbing to Emergency Plumbing, Heating & Air and hit the ground running. When the siblings took over the family business, they had 2 service vans and one truck. Today Plumbing Service has 17 service vans, 2 excavation crews, 24 employees and continues to grow quickly. Nick, Jennifer, and Doug keep a professional approach when it comes to the family business. They have such a close-knit family relationship. They can keep their personal feelings in check when it comes to business. If there is an argument at work, they leave it at work and go home and have dinner together. They know business is business and it doesn’t get in the way of their family relationship. This is a key factor to the success in their ability to grow their business rapidly. Nick, Jennifer, and Doug hope to pass on the family business, one day, to the third generation of Roses.
